The Gavrilin International Music Festival
The Gavrilin International Music Festival has become an integral part of the cultural life of Vologda and all Russia. Its misson is to preserve the heritage and perpetuate the memory of the remarkable Russian composer Valery Aleksandrovich Gavrilin.
The Vologda Oblastis the native land of this oustanding composer of the second half of the XX century, the author of the well-known ballet «Anyuta», vocal and choral compositions, music for theatrical performances and films. The theme of national roots is central in his creative work, and the festival carrying the name of Gavrilin, shows the public all the variety of Russian musical culture.
The festival started in 1999 and is traditionally carried out in Vologda and Cherepovets in the autumn and in the beginning of winter. Its organizers are the Vologda Oblast Government and the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Gavrilin Vologda State Philarmonic Society. The honoured guests of the festival are the widow of the composer Natalia Evgenyevna Gavrilina and his first teacher of music Tatyana Dmitrievna Tomashevskaya.
In the Gavrilin festival take part groups and soloists of the world level, there carried out scientific conferences.
