Vasily Belov's memorial flat
Vasily Belov's memorial flat was opened in Vologda on October 21, 2015. Here in his flat in house 10 in Oktyabrskaya street Belov had lived since 1987, here he wrote novels The Year of a Major Breakdown, the Sixth Hour, remembrances of Vasily Shukshin, plays, many short novels, sketches, op-ed pieces, poems and many other works.
During Belov's lifetime the flat was visited by writers, artists, composers, politicians, churchmen. Some of the visitors were Valentin Rasputin, Vladimir Krupin, Vladimir Lichutin, Victor Likhonosov, an opera singer Boris Shtokolov, an art historian Slava Yamshikov.
A lot of the show-items in the museum are the gifts to Vasily Belov from the numerous admirers of his talent, for instance, in the living room we can see an Icon of the Mother of God, presented by Alexis II, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. On Vasily Ivanovitch’s worktop there are two sculptures: of Shukshin and Pushkin, a printing machine with a typed text, Bible of Elizabeth of 1730 year, a small volume of Paskal.
Vasily Ivanovich Belov’s personal library includes more than four thousand volumes. He was interested in history and philosophy, he was constantly reading and studying different things. Belov loved pictorial art, he collected works and painted rather well himself: a few of his paintings are also exhibited in the museum.
