Chagodoschenskiy museum of history and folk culture
Chagodoschenskiy museum of history and folk culture is one of the youngest museums in the region (it was opened in January, 1994). Today the museum offers visitors seven permanent expositions telling about history of Chagodoschenskiy land:
• Ancient and medieval history of the area
• Articles of everyday life
• Tools of 19-20th centuries
• Nature of the area
• Industry and agriculture
• Public education and science
• Defenders of Homeland
In the exhibition hall historical, cultural, ethnographic and art expositions are demonstrated.
The museum stock consists of 12 collections. The priority collections:• Glassware
Since its foundation the museum employees collect and study glassware. Research and scientific work on history of glass-production in Chagodoschenskiy area since 19th century till present time is resulted in annual exhibitions of glassware.
The municipality is one of the most examined area by the archeologists and rich in monuments of archeology. The museum collection contains numerous exhibits brought to the museum as the result of excavation works on the territory of the area by Northern-Russian archeological expedition. These are silicon tools of the Mesolithic epoch, ceramics of the Bronze century, decorations from hills and burial mounds of the Iron century, the unique stone idol and many other findings. All of them reveal the episodes of life of our descendants – Finno-Ugric and Slavic tribes who settled the territory of the area.
