Gryazovets museum of history and folk culture
The building of the museum (a former house of the merchant Razumovsky-Mashaldin, II half of the 19th century) is included in the national list of historical and cultural heritage.
In 1978 the local historian Antonina Noskova founded the folk museum on the voluntary basis that in 1980 became a branch of Vologda museum-reserve. In 2003 the integration of the local lore museum with the Center of traditional folk culture resulted in foundation of Gryazovets museum of history and folk culture.
The museum expositions are devoted to the history of Gryazovets city and municipality since-18-19th centuries till present time.
Some expositions of the museum are devoted to the basic handicrafts of the municipality. Flax cultivation is reflected in the unique exposition «Vologda Flax» devoted to the «northern silk». Till 20th century pottery was developed in the municipality, there were a lot of talented craftsmen. Now pottery is reviving. One more traditional Gryazovets handicraft spread in 19-20th centuries is lace weaving. In 1910 there were 3 400 lace makers in Gryazovets district. The museum is developing actively.
