Such specialities of Vologda Region as Veliky Ustyug – Hometown of Ded Moroz, Vologda Made Product and Ustyuzhna – the City of Blacksmiths hit the top of the national rating of tourist brands

Centre for information communications «Rating» together with the Agency BCGroup and magazine «Rest in Russia» presented the top tourist Russian brands, three Vologda’s brands among them – Veliky Ustyug – Hometown of Ded Moroz, Vologda Made Product and Ustyuzhna – the City of Blacksmiths.

Veliky Ustyug is one of the oldest towns in Russia, a place that history somehow left behind. Given Veliky Ustyug’s untouchable beauty, rich history, imposing architectural ensembles and picturesque nature, the city was chosen to become homeland of Ded Moroz (Russian Santa Claus) who lives in his wooden palace in the forests at Votchina.

The residence includes not only the house of Ded Moroz, but also comfortable cottages made of wood, a restaurant, a recreation centre with a sauna, a swimming pool and a billiard room. Other attractions of Russian Santa’s woodland home include the «path of fairy tales» an outdoor obstacle course where tourists can meet a number of characters from Russian folklore.

Ustyuzhna was first described by a chronicler in 1252. The history begins with the development of metallurgical industry on the territory of Rus. In XVI century Ustyuzhna became a major centre of weaponry production in Russia. The inhabitants of Ustyuzhna preserved the traditions of blacksmith’s work that have their roots going back deep into history. Annually blacksmiths from all over Russia come to Ustyuzhna to demonstrate their skills and choose the best master.

A system of voluntary certification under the name «Vologda Made Product» is a sign for clients and consumers that our goods and services focus on quality and are run with efficiency.

The oblast exports considerable amounts of food products: milk, poultry, meat and famous Vologda butter. High quality of products under the Vologda Made Product trademark was repeatedly awarded with various prizes.

The region is more than self-sufficient in nearly all major products. It produces close to 100% of its needs for cereals, flax fibre, meat, dairy products, poultry meat and vegetables. Farmers from the Vologda Oblast supply the essential foodstuffs for the region; they feed other parts of Russia as well.

The rating of the top tourist Russian brands is based on brand awareness and consumer appreciation of its attractiveness. The jury studied the regional brands and selected from handicrafts, geographic features, resorts, destinations, attractions, deli brands and industrial facilities.
