Craftsmen from 40 Russian regions and 5 foreign countries are to participate in International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts” on June 14-16
Vologda City will play host to the second edition of the International Folk Crafts Festival “City of Crafts”on June 14-16. The festival will gather craftsmen from 40 Russian regions and from such countries as Germany, Belarus, Armenia, Estonia and Uzbekistan.
Over 350 applications from artisans have been received in the following categories - traditional female crafts, national costume, wooden and birch bark craft painting, valenki (kind of felt boots), wood engraving and wicker-work, blacksmithing, potter's craft and forgotten handicrafts.
The festival includes creative workshops, lectures and round table meetings where leading experts on folk culture will share their ideas and projects.
The festival is aimed at popularization of folk arts and handicrafts among the younger generation. It is arranged with an active backing of the Vologda City Administration and a Handicrafts Centre “Reznoi Palisad (Carved Fence)”.
This year the programme of the festival is dedicated to theatre as Russian President Vladimir Putin officially designated 2019 as the Year of Theatre in Russia.
