Photographer Abraham Bam (1923 – 2013) was born in Vologda in the family of the employee. In 1931-1934 he studied at the primary school number 13, then he graduated seven classes in high school № 27. In the mid-1930s, when he lived on the street Mayakovsky, the first time he saw his neighbor's simple photographic equipment: frame for photo printing and machine-monocle. |

Vasily Belov (1932 – 2012) was a Soviet/Russian writer, poet and dramatist, who published more than 60 books which sold (as to 1998) 7 million copies. He was born in the Vologda region, in the village of Timonikha. His first book was the book of poems «My Little Forest Village» (1961). |

Jury Polovnikov, director Jury Polovnikov (1954 – 2003) was born in city of Sokol of the Vologda region. After the graduating from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography Jury Polovnikov has received the diploma of the director-documentalist. Jury Polovnikov has created about 80 films on cinema and a videofilm. Sacred places of the Vologda land – monasteries, churches, monuments of architecture – take the central place in Jury Polovnikov's creativity. |

Aleshchenko, A. Solovyov, G. Korzhev. Participated in exhibitions since 1975. Member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1980, Honored Artist of Russia in 1999. |

Varlam Shalamov (1907 – 1982), the Russian writer, was born in Vologda, to the family of Tikhon Shalamov, the priest of St. Sofia Cathedral. He studied in the Vologda grammar school, for two years he worked on a skinnery, in 1926 entered the Moscow state university, the department of the Soviet Law, but in 1928 was excluded «for concealment of the social origin». |

Dzhanna Tutundzhan (1931 – 2011) was a painter and graphic artist. She was a member of the Artists' Union of Russia (1964), Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1972), People's Artist of Russia (2004), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2009). Tutundzhan was a participant of numerous art exhibitions in Russia and abroad. |
