Alexander Panteleev (1932 – 1990) was a Soviet painter, graphic artist, monumentalist, set designer.
He entered the history of modern art as a master, to solve difficult problems the relationship of nature and civilization. The world of his images was extremely complex and diverse. Metaphors, allegories and symbols created a vocabulary of his individual artistic language. Theatrical scenery and architectural designs, and landscapes of the Urals and the Russian North, rural and urban still lifes characters, Italian motifs and Cuban fantasies were made to them for 40 years of hard work.
When the master's life in Moscow, Vologda, and many cities of Russia took 16 of his personal exhibitions. 40 museums in Russia and the CIS have his paintings and drawings. 6 paintings are kept at the State Tretyakov Gallery. More than 80 collectors in Russia, CIS and foreign countries possess his works. During the life of the artist in his art studio was kept around 100 paintings and 1,000 drawings. Today Vologda Art Gallery has 136 paintings and 1,268 drawings Panteleeva, possessing the most complete collection of his works, covering all periods of the master from 1956 to 1990 and all its thematic cycles and stylistic trends.
Originally creative world of Panteleev formed from real experiences Ural nature («Spring hoist», 1956). He wrote from life 12 years, creating a lyrical landscapes in an impressionistic manner. After becoming acquainted with the art of Pablo Picasso in 1956 the young artist has experienced a creative revolution, and after 10 years developed a personal style that jokingly referred to as «my oblique painting» («Mart. Blue shadows», 1969).
In 1976 the artist moved from Ufa to Vologda and immediately involved in the cultural life of the city. In 1977 – 1983 and in 1987 – 1989, he led the organization of the Vologda Russian Union of Artists and has done a lot for the development of culture and art in the region.
From 1981 until his death Alexander Panteleev worked in the creative workshop of the street Kozlenskaya, 4 (now Memorial Panteleev's Studio). Argued that the workshop – the second house of the artist, a creative person cast, the character of its owner.
In a large room always stood 3 easels, because the artist has always worked simultaneously on several canvases. Reflecting the long evenings of the purpose of the artist, the master looked into the form easels, found similarities with the cross and said: «The artist paints his picture with blood, giving their souls, his flesh, mind – all that is».
Panteleev has worked on industrial landscape, rightly regard the leading master of this genre. But honesty allowed him to see and disastrous towards progress. So in 1967, the first of its environmental picture «Black Fish» appeared. These works later lead the author to the unique cycle of robots «Chin Unforeseen» (1975-1989), in which the machine live like people, rejoicing and suffering.
At the other extreme creativity Panteleeva is a classic theme in her images of ancient culture are interwoven with motifs of the Italian Renaissance («Florence», 1982) and Russian classicism of Pushkin's time («To the poet», 1977). In Vologda master again turned to the beloved world of theater and designed the performances of regional drama theater «Don Carlos» (1978), «Antony and Cleopatra» (1986). From 1986 to 1990 he worked on a series of Cuban.
A special place in his creative work took the theme of the North. Since the early 1980s, he created the most harmonious and bright-sounding works («Table in the village of red», 1981). And in 1989, the author started writing «Russian North series», which thought for many years. It was a revelation, and it became clear that this is the beginning of a new way of the artist («The parable of the fish», 1989). But he managed to write only 22 paintings. January 22, 1990 Alexander left on the easel almost complete work («The Last Picture», 1990) and 6 started canvases…
