The poet Alexander Romanov (1930 – 1990) was born born in the Petryaevo village of Sokolsky District (Vologda Region) in the family of a village teacher. Romanov father was a teacher of Russian language and literature, he was killed during the war. Mother – collective farm.

In 1945 Romanov after graduating from school went to Vologda. He graduated from Vologda teacher’s training vocational school, then Vologda Pedagogical Institute. Graduated with honors. In 1952–1960s he worked in the regional youth newspaper «Vologda Komsomol member». The first book, «The recognition of friends» was published in 1956. In 1959 Romanov accepted to the RSFSR Writers’ Union. Since 1960, Alexander Romanov studied at 2-yearly High literary courses in Moscow, in the workshop, which was led by Ya. Smelyakov, M. Lukonin critic A. Makarov. In 1962–1964 Romanov worked in the regional youth newspaper «Vologda Komsomol member».

Since 1964 during 11 years for different terms he was elected as a senior secretary of the Vologda Region writers' organization. In 1972 he awarded to A. Yashin Prize adopted by Vologda Region Komsomol organization. In 1980 he decorated with the order «Sign of Honor».

During his literary career Alexander A. Romanov wrote 25 books of verses, poems and prose published in Vologda, Archangelsk and Moscow. His most famous works - is «Dedication to relatives» (1967), «Black Bread» (1975), «Northern Poems» (1979), «Days of Insight» (1985), «Russia goes to us» (1987), «Favorites» (1990), «Watchdog ray» (2000).

For many years he was a member of the editorial board of the «North» magazine, a member of the Auditing and Reception Committee of the RSFSR Writers’ Union. He died on May 5, 1999 in Vologda. Buried near the grave of his mother in the village cemetery in Georgievskoye village not far from his native village.

In his poems «Severyanovna» (1968), «Earth» (1969), «Black Bread» (1975) and others Romanov asserted the unity of the national tradition, above all moral and ethical, which runs from the peasantry. In the 1990s, in the lyrics Romanov increased nonfiction beginning. Another side of creativity Romanov in recent years – a return to the Orthodox life.

In 1995, Romanov has released a farewell book lyrical philosophical prose «Sparks memory», which brought together into a coherent whole journalism, memoirs and criticism. It includes, in particular, memories of N. Rubtsov, F. Abramov, A. Yashin. Special genre for Romanov became a «thought», in full published only in 2003 («The Last Happiness»). In the aphoristic form Romanov expressed in their favorite ideas about the place of the poet in Russian life and literature.
