Director of the Vologda Regional Art Gallery Vladimir Voropanov about Valery Strahov creativity:
«Decisive influence in shaping the worldview and creative destiny of Strahov had years of study at the Art Institute of V. Surikov. Later Strahov said that he considers himself to the Moscow School of Painting, which is characterized by a special sense of historicism. Among the most respected Russian painters of old Moscow, he always says A. Savrasov, A. Ryabushkin, V. and A. Vasnetsov, I. Levitan. Arriving in 1983, finally to Vologda, he gradually becomes a prominent figure of the modern Russian movement realism.
Working almost exclusively in the landscape genre, he develops the traditions of Russian realistic «landscape of mood». As he said, «The most successful I get when I write from life. And the most beautiful, when it's cold and windy and you have a lot to endure».
The main plot of his paintings nucleus becomes variability and consistency of the world. He is not looking for a momentary and fashion landscape. His landscapes are created by centuries and warmed generations of people. Especially fortunate for him transition states of the seasons and the days when the artist responds to the mood of peoples life».
