According to the agreement between Vologda Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Pozgalev and Saint-Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko Days of Vologda Region took place in Saint-Petersburg on September 16-18, 2010. The program of the Vologda Region Days in the northern capital consisted of several parts including a large cultural program.

State amateur group “Gostia” took part in the festive opening ceremony of the exhibition of the economic and cultural potential of Vologda Region that took place on September 16th in Atrium of the Petropavlovsk fortress. The exhibition was opened during September 16-18th and an exposition of Vologda lace from Vologda state museum-reserve of history, architecture and art became its part.

On September 16th in the branch of State museum of history of Saint-Petersburg “Rumyantsev mansion” an art exhibition “Art of Vologda land” devoted to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was opened. The exposition included works of painting, graphics and applied art from Vologda Picture gallery collection.

The purpose of the exhibition is to make a wide comprehensive presentation of the contemporary art of Vologda land of the middle of the XX – beginning of the XXI centuries. The exposition included works of the famous painters such as People’s Artists of Russia V.Korbakov and D.Tutudzhan, Honored painters of Russia A.Panteleev, O.Pakhomov, V.Strakhov, M.Kopiev, G.Kalinin, Y.Voronov, O.Borozdin, A.Savin. The graphics section was represented by the works of Vologda land painters famous beyond the bounds of the region - the Burmagins, V.Sergeev, A.Nagovitsyn, V.Edemskiy, L.Schetnev and others. The exhibition introduced the guests to the traditional handicrafts of Vologda land – birch bark and wood carving, “frosted finish on tin-plate”, open-work iron smithery. The exhibition “Art of Vologda land” will be exhibited till October 10, 2010.

A concert program “Valeri Gavrilin: speaking with you” performed by one of the best symphonic orchestra in the world – State Academic Bolshoi symphonic orchestra named after P.Chaikovskaiy (art director and conductor – People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Fedoseev) was included in the program of the Days.

The name of the outstanding composer, People’s Artist of RSFSR, winner of State prizes of RSFSR and USSR Valeri Gavrilin is one of the points that closely connects Vologda land – a birthplace of Valeri Gavrilin, a land from which he took the main topic for his art, and Saint Petersburg that gave him a possibility to open himself as an original in style and talent composer.

Valeri Gavrilin’s music for many years is a part of the repertoire of the State Academic Bolshoi symphonic orchestra named after P.Chaikovskiy. The concert program “Valeri Gavrilin: speaking with you” was devoted to the 70th anniversary of the composer. The premier of the concert took place on October 30, 2009 in the concert hall named after P.Chaikovskiy in Moscow. On November 1-2, 2009 the program with big success was demonstrated in the concert halls of Vologda Music College and House of metallurgists in Cherepovets city. This time the residents of the northern capital had a chance to see this music and literature program. The concert was arranged on September 16 in the concert hall of the State academic choir of Saint-Petersburg.

In the frames of the concert in Saint-Petersburg CD-disk with the record of the premiere show of the program in Moscow was presented.

On September 17 in the exhibition hall of the Russian National library a book and illustrations exhibition “Vologda-Saint-Petersburg: ties of time and generations” was opened. At the exhibition monuments of Vologda book tradition from the stock of the Russian National library and Vologda regional universal scientific library named after Babushkin; books published by “Book Heritage” publishing house, presentation of electronic version “Vologda Memory” designed by the regional library were exhibited.
