J. Mitchell Johnson, Abamedia Founder, President and CEO is to shoot a film about restoration of architectural monuments in Russia’s North.

The American producer, director, writer and consultant on international media projects, Johnson has been responsible for creating high-quality film and video programming that has been broadcast on major networks worldwide.

This time Mitchell Johnson will shoot a film about Alexander Popov, restorer from the District of Kirillov (Vologda Oblast), the USSR State Prize in Architecture winner (1991).

Starting from the 2000s, Alexander Popov participated in restoration works of several buildings that compose the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. He completely restored the Prophet Elijah Church. Since 2009 the restoration centre led by Alexander Popov has been engaged in conservation works of the Church of the Deposition of the Robe that is considered to be the oldest wooden church in Russia.

For Fort Ross Bicentennial Celebrations in 2012 Alexander Popov restored a historic windmill that was built by Russian settlers in the USA in 1814. The unique windmill, which grinds grain on the basis of 200-year-old technology, was delivered to Fort Ross State Historic Park in California. The same year J. Mitchell Johnson shot a documentary film on a visit of the Kashaya Pomo people (USA) to Vologda and Tot’ma. At that time the U.S. director got acquainted with the Russian restorer.
