On Februry,7, 2013 a round-table discussion “Vologda Oblast and Fort Ross: heritage of Russian America” took place in the office of Vologda department of the All-Russian social organization Russian Geographical Society.

The discussion became one of the key moments of drawing a conclusion to the 200 Fort Ross anniversary in 2012. Mrs Sarah Swidler, the president and chairman of Fort Ross Conservancy board of directors, invited by Vologda department of Russian Geographical Society and Vologda government, visited Vologda Oblast to take part in the conference as well as other events related to this date.

In the round-table discussion there also took part Vjacheslav Pozgalev, chairman of the Vologda guardian council of Russian Geographical Society, a delegate of the RF State Duma; professor Nadezhda Maksutova, Doctor of Philosophy, chairman of Vologda department of Russian Geographical Society; Yury Senko, the head of the foreign contacts management of International and Interregional Ties and Tourism Department of Vologda Oblast; Natalia Ezhova, deputy of the head of industry and science management of Vologda Economics Department; Ivan Pozdnjakov, councellor of the head of Vologda city in social and cultural questions, chairman of the committee Heritage of Russian America of Vologda department of Russian Geographical Society, Alexander Petrov, research advisor of Heritage of Russian America committee of Vologda department of Russian Geographical Society, Doctor of Historical Science, professor, leading scientific worker of Institute of History of Russian Academy of Science; Alexander Suvorov, director of Vologda State Historical-Architectural and Fine Arts open-air Museum, as well as teachers and students of Vologda State Teacher Training University.

In the course of the discussion politicians, scientists, cultural workers and students exchanged opinions on the questions of protection of cultural and natural heritage of Russian America and Fort Ross, strengthening friendship, further development of the dialogue and cooperation.

On February,7 Mrs Sarah Swidler is having meetings with Andrei Travnikov, the first deputy governor of Vologda Oblast and Vjacheslav Pozgalev, chairman of the Vologda guardian council of Russian Geographical Society, a delegate of the RF State Duma.

On February, 8 and 9, Mrs Sarah Swidler is visiting Totma and Veliky Ustug, where she is taking part in the presentation of the anniversary edition about Fort Ross for the pupils of the city schools. The program of the visit to Totma includes a tour around museums of the city and visiting the grave of Ivan Kuskov, the founder of Fort Ross, in Spaso-Sumorin monastery. In Veliky Ustug it is planned to see the expositions of Veliky Ustug’s open-air museum and Lands of Ded Moroz.
