The international festival will take place in the town of Gusev in the
Kaliningrad Region on August 24-25. The historical reenactment is dedicated to
the victory of the Russian imperial army during World War I outside Gumbinnen
(now known as Gusev).
The event is organised by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Government of
the Kaliningrad with an active support of the RF Defense Ministry. Military
history reconstruction of fighting will involve participants from Russia,
Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the Czech Republic.
The Battle of Gumbinnen, initiated by forces of the German Empire on August 20,
1914, was the first major German offensive on the Eastern Front during the First
World War. Because of the hastiness of the German attack, however, the Russian
army emerged victorious.
