The Vologda Lace Museum received new exhibits from Switzerland

The collection of Western European lace and fabrics of the Vologda Museum of Lace received new exhibits from a Swiss patron of art Amelia Hussar. This time she did not arrive in Vologda. On behalf of her name a collection of fabrics, lace and jewelry was brought to Vologda by Consul of RF Embassy in Switzerland Konstantin Nefedov.

The gift from Amelia Hussar was timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Switzerland. This is the first time the Vologda Lace Museum received such exhibits dating from 18th-19th centuries.

In addition to it, the Vologda Lace Museum got one more present from Prof. Dr. Rainer Vollkommer , director of Liechtenstein National Museum. He brought to Vologda samples of Liechtenstein lace for national costume that was specially made by a Swiss lace-maker for Vologda – two shirt-cuffs and a collar.

The residents of Vologda and guests to the city will be able to see new exhibits at the end of the year.

Donation of these assets became possible thanks to cooperation between the Department of Culture and Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Vologda Region, the Vologda State Museum-Preserve, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Switzerland and representatives of the Swiss cultural figures.
