«The most mass-scale lace-making» campaign took place in Vologda 24June2011 within the framework of the International Lace Festival VITA LACE. At the same time 570 lace-makers were creating a record in Kremlin square. The campaign included members fr om 25 regions of Vologda district, Vologda and Cherepovets, 18 regions of Russia and eight foreign countries: Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Ireland, Poland, Slovenia and Canada.

11 July 2011 having considered Vologda’s application to make a new Russian record «The most mass-scale lace-making», editorial board of Russian Records book admitted it to satisfy the rules and unanimously voted for this application to be an official national record!

28 July 2011 Alexey Svistunov, the main editor of Russian Records book came into Vologda. He gave the diploma to Alexander Suvorov, the general director of Vologda State Culture Preserve Museum. The Russian Records book diploma will be handed to be kept in Museum of Lace and to become a unique museum piece.

Alexey Svistunov told about Russian Records book and Vologda district records:

«Vologda record created a special category: we hadn’t had any applications of this kind before. We had had different records connecting with lace. Take for example one man who has the biggest collection of lace – more than 1000 original pieces. As far as the lacemaking is concerned, there had not been any precedent before.

What is good about your record, a lot of people were involved, who not only pass over their experience, their knowledge of lace-making to the next generations but also will leave a memory about his event. This is the preservation of the country’s culture which is a great present concern of our president.

And it makes the task of the crucial importance, for the factories and plans will always exist and evolve, and this is in the elements of folk art wh ere culture can easily get lost. The attempt to save our cultural heritage came into practice in this spectacular event, which was also visited by Svetlana Medvedeva. She became the main independent witness. Which is an essential element of any record registration to have an independent witness. Certainly on our part we will do everything to put your record into the Guinness World Records, while I has already been put into Russian Records book on 12 July 2011.

The process necessary for registration in Russian Records book starts with an application. Our group of experts carries out an examination of the applications because they can no always be considered as records.

«The most mass-scale lace-making» refers to the «mass campaigns». The creation of such a record is connected not only with professional skills of a single person but also with an ability to organize big number of people to act simultaneously».

A big job was done by journalists who broadcast this campaign by Mass Media and presented photo and video material for the record registration, that is why within the framework of Russian Records book diploma award many of them were being expressed gratitude to by Ivan Pozdnyakov, the first deputy of Vologda region governor.
