Over 100 large events will be held in Vologda during Year of Culture

Traditional city festivities include the Dmitrievsky Readings, the Festival of Multimedia Art “Multimatograf”, the Choir Festival “Young Classics”, the Festival of Poetry and Music “Rubtsov’s Autumn”, the International Festival of Crafts “City with Carved Palisade”. In general, the main cultural program consists of about 20 conferences, readings and festivals.

About 30 events will take place in Vologda within the framework of the Year of Russian Culture in Great Britain and the Year of British Culture in Russia. It coincided with the 450th anniversary of the birth of English playwright William Shakespeare in 2014.

Vologda will host the international conference about William Shakespeare’s creative heritage from June 3 to 4 on the occasion of this event. Vologda’s residents will be able to see performances staged by the theatres of not only Russia, but also other countries during the theatre marathon from July 2 to 5. The cinema marathon will be held in the city from April 23 to June 6. Besides, actions and contests about William Shakespeare’s works will be held in the cultural institutions during the whole year.
