Russian Ded Moroz from Veliky Ustyug is recognized as the official Ded Moroz of the Sochi Winter Olympics.

On November 18 Ded Moroz, Russia’s equivalent of Santa Claus, celebrated his birthday in his residence in Veliky Ustyug, the Vologda Region. On this day, Ded Moroz announced the opening of his residence in Sochi where residents and guests to the Sochi Olympic Games 2014 will be able to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of Russian regions.

Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov presented the project of the residence of Ded Moroz to President of the Organizing Committee of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi Dmitry Chernyshenko. Mr. Kuvshinnikov and Mr. Chernyshenko made a guided tour of the residence the construction of which is underway.

The residence of Ded Moroz will be a two-storeyed timbered house with the area of 700 square meters with a throne room, museum, a souvenir store, a cafe and a personal room of the host of New Year.

During the Winter Olympic Games 2014 Father Frost will personally entertain guests in his southern residence and communicate with children and their parents, all other time his helpers will work there.
