Russian flax - 2009 On February, 26 the Vologda Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Pozgalyov opened the International exhibition - fair «Russian flax - 2009». Since 1998 the Vologda Oblast has been the place where the fair «Russian flax» is held. For today exhibition - fair is the contact center of participants of all technological chain of the linen complex - from the scientists and experts engaged in linen production, seed-growing and processing, to consumers of finial goods. Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexey Gordeyev, in March, 2008 at the All-Russia competition «Flax - to the goods of Russia», emphasized, that the exhibition - fair had outgrown the Russian borders and had got the status of international, and the city of Vologda had won the right to be referred to as the capital of flax of Russia. This year the number of participants has considerably increased and has reached 218, including the enterprises of agriculture, light industry and mechanical engineering, businessmen and designers from the Russian regions and abroad. The national artist of Russia, a known fashion designer Valentine Yudashkin who took part in the opening of the International exhibition - fair «Russian flax - 2009» recognized the high level of the organization of the exhibition and more various, if compared to the last year, assortment of submitted goods: «The visual and art line have brightly changed. We see more models which are awaited by the public. Many solid exhibitions of Europe began to lose their clients, many exhibitions this year were closed. But Vologda became an exception. This is big business. Exhibition - fair has become a center of development and demonstration of new fashion currents, and it is also the so-called groundwork for the next year. Masters see new fashion tendencies and are already creating elements of their future collections». It is necessary to note, that for the years the exhibition - fair «Russian flax» has been carried out the assortment of linen goods has increased by more than 50 %; progressive technologies for production of the yarn of high numbers, high-quality fabrics of wide assortment are being introduced. In 2008 Vologda Oblast started implementing the regional target program «Development of the Vologda Oblast linen complex for 2008-2012».
